Would you like to try Dragon Boat Paddling? New members are very welcome.
Derwent Storms offer Come and Try sessions on Saturday mornings (see Paddling Times). The first session is free. The cost of the next 3 sessions is $30.00. If you then decide to join the club, then the $30 is deducted from the annual membership fee.
There are different levels that you can choose from:
Low to Medium Intensity – For any who like to get outside on the river, have a bit of fun and are after a low to medium intensity training session. These sessions are on Saturdays and also serve as the Come and Try session.
Competitive Sports Level – For those who are after a challenge or would like to get involved at a more competitive level. Training sessions are intermediate to high intensity, held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday mornings.
State/Australian Representative Level – For highly motivated and disciplined people with a passion and commitment to Dragon Boat racing. These individuals are committed with proven skills and fitness levels and are able to achieve the benchmarks that are required for selection. You can aim to be part of a dragon boat team going to National competitions or indeed Australian Team selections (the Auroras) for future World Championships. In 2015, five of our members represented Australia.
There is also a paddling session on Wednesday mornings for fun, fitness and friendship; membership of DBTas is a prerequisite to participation in this session.
If you would like to see what the sport is all about come down to the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania, 1 Ford Parade, Lindisfarne.
